Background
Inspired by the powerful message of grace and redemption found in the prodigal son story, Elaine Enriquez felt called to create a musical that would use drama to convey this remarkable tale. Her compelling music and masterful storytelling allow us to accompany this young man on his journey…a journey that leads right into the Father Heart of God symbolized in the Bible by a father who is waiting and watching for his own beloved child to return home.
Why “The Prodigal Son (The Musical)”?
- Purpose: For many Christians, these are the days that God is calling His prodigals home. Home from all nations, all religions and all generations. It has long been Elaine’s belief that God’s reason for “downloading” this musical into her is to call His beloved children home from all the corners of the earth. Music and drama are both powerful means of reaching across cultures, in ways that words simply can not do. It is her hope that theaters and ministries will post their productions on the internet. By doing so they will be partnering with God to accomplish His purpose of calling His prodigals home.

- Script: The script is set in 27 A.D., near the Sea of Galilee—a region where Jesus often visited and taught. The story unfolds around the prodigal son’s family, who lived there at that time. The father’s exposure to Jesus’ profound teachings on love, forgiveness, and non-judgment, influenced him greatly as a husband and parent. In addition, utilizing Christ’s teachings about taking authority over the demonic realm, the father battles in the spirit for the safe return of his beloved son.
- Awards: Although “The Prodigal Son” is a stage musical by genre, the script was entered into numerous international screenwriting competitions. So far the script has won seven international screenplay awards and an honorable mention.
